The quantum frontier, unchartered territory, mastering a new software, 4 gallery visits, from physics to the physical world, AI powered computing to AI powered painting, from constellations in the sky to the constellation of the computer chip, mastering a new software and visualising the invisible.
The studio ventured into the quantum frontier with Google to create a beautiful, ethereal depiction of the tantalising possibilities of quantum computing. Unlike traditional computers which explore solutions in a linear way, quantum technology has the ability to explore multiple solutions simultaneously. The potential of this nascent technology is still being tested, and the film reflects that exploration both in its journey into unknown lands and its technical experimentation.
The narrative follows a journey beyond into unfamiliar but beautiful landscapes that never quite coalesce into an entirely stable scene, it evolves and flickers reflecting the elusive, unknown qualities of a powerful, unpredictable technology.
"What made this project so exciting was seeing multiple skills in the studio combining to make something new. It felt like Google Quantum's exploration of the Quantum frontier was mirrored in our approach to the visuals – we were exploring new territory, learning as we went, which gave the final result even more conceptual weight."
Stephen Middleton, Creative Director, Art&GraftThe studio team utilised a new beta-stage AI software to interpolate single paintings onto the moving 3D landscape of the quantum frontier, resulting in a number of beautiful shifting scenes.
While Quantum computing emulates the quantum mechanics we witness in nature, this beta software does almost the mirror image, replicating powerful natural imagery and traditional hand-painted animation. This AI-powered style transfer technique was the perfect visual to represent this unchartered territory – imperfect, mysterious, strangely beautiful.

A royal audience, the biggest race meeting in the world, a crowd of well-dressed watchers, a vibrant racecourse, an array of colours and textures, split-second movements and brushstrokes, displaced mud, the thud of hooves, the clink of the bridle, galloping through frame by frame.
What is MuZero? How do you visualise an AI?
Texture to type, game play to word play, a new AI model, a number of sliding, slotting puzzle pieces, a grid system to reflect its gaming roots, Go, Chess, Atari, a fourth generation software, real world impact.
