A scan of coral, a plastic takeover, countless failed simulations, billions of tons of plastic, five oceans, one planet.
Plastic Plants is an exploration into the effect of plastic on the environment, honing in on a particularly vulnerable natural form- coral.
Inspired by an ocean plastic project, we decided to investigate Cinema 4D’s latest update, a cloth simulator that replicates fabric textures, including plastic. As the coral entity transforms, changing from opaque to translucent, the new material accurately emulates waterlogged plastic, ballooning and fit to burst. The film ends with this explosive disintegration, highlighting the ever-growing plastic flotsam of the ocean.
Working from 3D scans of coral forms, the team focused on remeshing these forms to prepare the intricate structures for the cloth simulator.
"My favourite part of the project was really exploring what it could be. I initially explored flowers — looking at how ballooning petal forms could metamorphosize but after being inspired by a project about ocean plastic, I decided on the coral concept. I decided to stay true to the orangey, pink hue of coral in order to emphasise the colour being stripped when the structure transforms to plastic."

Star Boy is the unsettling result of a team's Unreal experiments.
Eight scenes, canteens to carparks, snowscapes to dreamscapes, forest floors to mountain tours. One Star Boy. An Unreal team effort, a suite of new settings and features to master, new pipelines to perfect.
The rave rock that never sleeps.
Ancient rock forms, nightclub strobes, thousands of particles, 3D modelling on the commute, countless frame-by-frame flourishes, a rock for eternity.
Some dude in some motel room, with nothing to kill but time.
A solitary hotel room, a lovable loser, fast food scattered across cheap carpets, day time TV, extra large soda, an empty fridge, a wasted afternoon.
